ALS: "Jim Corbett", 1p, 6½x5½. Bayside,
N.Y., 1927 November 6. To Chisholm. In full: "Enclosed find the
pictures. Am working in vaudeville and don't get home very often but if I run
across anybody I can interest in your article will surely do so. Excuse short
letter, have to catch train." Corbett (1866-1933) defeated World Heavyweight
Champion John L. Sullivan on September 7, 1892 in a 21-round decision in the
first championship fight to use big boxing gloves. He lost the title on March
17, 1897 when he was defeated in 14 rounds by Bob Fitzsimmons. After his
boxing career, he performed in vaudeville, on Broadway and in motion pictures,
billed as "Gentleman Jim" Corbett. Penned on his wife's personal stationery.
Light paper clip impression at upper blank margin. Staple holes at upper margin.
Staple marks at left touch 1 word. Lightly creased. Overall, fine
condition.
