Photograph inscribed and signed: "To/Mrs. Gotty J. Benthall/With best wishes/Sincerely/Jas J Corbett". Sepia, 8x10. Photograph by Apeda, N.Y. Corbett defeated champion John L. Sullivan in 1892 in a 21-round decision in New Orleans in the first championship bout using large boxing gloves. He lost the title to Bob Fitzsimmons in a 14-round decision in Carson City, Nevada in 1897. 1¼-inch semi-circular stain at left of his head on blank background. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Fine condition.
