JAMES (JAMES H. BROWN JR.) HOOKER
The musician and founding member of the Grammy winning group Amazing Rhythm Aces signs this typed letter from 1976
Typed letter signed: "Jim Brown", in blue ink. 8¼x11, 1 page. Showcase Talent Agency letterhead. Dated May 21, 1976. Addressed to Major Jack Gaither at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana. In full: "Dear Jack, Are you still in Barksdale? You are if you get this. Jack, I'm under new booking management of Ron Blackwood & Showcase Talent Agency. I'd like to come sing for you at Barksdale. Most of all I'd like a letter of recommendation for future referrals. I have an all new show. I'm sure you'll like it. If possible I'd appreciate it if you could have one of your many secretaries write up a letter for me." James Hooker (Brown) was a founding member of the Grammy Award winning southern-country rock group Amazing Rhythm Aces. He spent time during the 60's and 70's as a studio musician for various artists, including: Al Green, Willie Mitchell, and Jimi Hendrix, among others. Once he joined the 'Aces, he changed his name from James Brown to James Hooker (so as not to be confused with James Brown, 'The Godfather of Soul') and often went by Jim. In 1987, he took up the position as band leader for Nanci Griffith's band, The Blue Moon Orchestra, where he spent the next 20 years. Slight horizontal creases from folding. Fine condition.
