Price: $380.00
JAMES ELLISON
B/w movie image from 1936's The Plainsman of Gary Cooper as Wild Bill Hickok and
James Ellison as Buffalo Bill. Signed by Ellison.
Photograph signed "James/Ellison". Purple ink and lead pencil notations on verso in unknown
hand. B/w, 10x8 overall, 9½x7½ image, one surface. Movie still from The Plainsman (1936).
Ellison starred as Buffalo Bill. American actor Ellison (1910-1993) got his start in stock theatre
and made his big screen bow in 1932. He developed into a light leading man of B-movies,
usually Westerns, before moving to low-cost second features in the 1950s. Fans of
Hopalong Cassidy may remember him as sidekick Johnny Nelson, a role he assayed in
Hopalong Cassidy Enters (1935) and for the next two years. Ellison appeared in 70 movies
between 1932 and 1952 before trying his luck at real estate. He returned to films only once
after that, for 1962's When the Girls Take Over. Lightly cracked, creased, bowed and rippled.
Signature has poor contrast and is lightly beaded but legible. Ink notes (unknown hand) on
verso (no show-through). Otherwise in fine condition.
