The actor signs his autograph on a sheet imprinted with the name of the man
who wrote the screenplays for three of his films.
Signature: "Jimmy Stewart", 3¼x2½. Portion of imprinted text at upper
margin: "[Sc]reenplay by John Michael Hayes. JOHN MICHAEL HAYES (born in
1919) wrote the screenplays for three films in which Stewart appeared:
Thunder Bay (1953; screenplay and story), Rear Window (1954) and
The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956). The sheet on which Stewart signed is
probably from a promotional piece for The Man Who Knew Too Much, as the
other names listed are those of actors who appeared in the film. JAMES "JIMMY"
STEWART (1908-1997) starred in more recognized masterpieces of the
American cinema than any other actor. In 1940, he won the Best Actor
Academy Award for The Philadelphia Story,and he was
nominated for Oscars in the same category for Mr. Smith Goes to
Washington (1939), It's A Wonderful Life (1946), Harvey (1950)
and Anatomy of a Murder (1959). Stewart, who was awarded an Honorary
Academy Award in 1984, also appeared in You Can't Take It With You,
Destry Rides Again, Winchester 73, Rear Window,
Vertigo, The Spirit of St. Louis, The Glenn Miller Story,
The Greatest Show on Earth and a long list of other features. Slightly
creased, light impression of writing (unknown hand) near signature. Mounting
stains on verso (no show through). Overall, fine condition.
