JAMES "JIMMY" STEWART
Framed color publicity photograph of James Stewart standing in front of a replica of Charles Lindbergh's famous plane, The Spirit of St. Louis.
Photograph signed: "Jimmy Stewart". Color, 9x13¼. Stewart is depicted in front of a replica of Charles Lindbergh's famous plane, The Spirit of St. Louis, which was created for the 1957 film in which Stewart played the aviator. The film was released 30 years after Lindbergh's historic May 20-21, 1927 solo flight from New York to Paris in 33½ hours. WWII Ace Stewart, who had flown in 20 bombing missions over Germany and eventually became a Brigadier General in the Air Force Reserve, played the aviation hero in the film. James "Jimmy" Stewart (1908-1997) starred in more recognized masterpieces of the American cinema than any other actor. In 1940, he won the Best Actor Academy Award for The Philadelphia Story, and he was nominated for Oscars in the same category for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), It's A Wonderful Life (1946), Harvey (1950) and Anatomy of a Murder (1959). Stewart, who was awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 1984, also appeared in You Can't Take It With You, Destry Rides Again, Winchester 73, Rear Window, The Glenn Miller Story, The Greatest Show on Earth and a long list of other features. Fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 15¾x26¾.
