Stewart signed this contract with MGM and Loew's Incorporated in 1938 so that he could appear on an Aug. 18, 1938 episode of The Kraft Music Hall radio show.
Contract signed "James Stewart" in blue ink and a vice-president of Loew's Incorporated in green ink. 2 pages, 8½x11, on Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures letterhead. Aug. 9 1938. Addressed to Mr. James Stewart c/o Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Culver City, California. This document gave Stewart permission to appear on an Aug. 18, 1938 broadcast of The Kraft Music Hall radio show. There were a few conditions: the material to be used on the show had to be submitted to MGM's Publicity Department for approval and the show would have to announce that Stewart was appearing courtesy of MGM Stewart (1908-1997, born in Indiana, Pennsylvania) starred in more recognized masterpieces of the American cinema than any other actor. In 1940, he won the Best Actor Academy Award for The Philadelphia Story,and he was nominated for Oscars in the same category for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), It's A Wonderful Life (1946), Harvey (1950) and Anatomy of a Murder (1959). Stewart, who was awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 1984, also appeared in You Can't Take It With You (1938), Destry Rides Again (1939), The Greatest Show on Earth (1952), Rear Window (1954), The Spirit of St. Louis (1957), Vertigo (1958) and a long list of other features. Lightly toned, creased and rippled. Staple holes and two file holes at top edge. Folded thrice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
