Carbon copy contract signed "James Stewart" and"J. R. Stauffer" as a representative of Young & Rubicam, Inc., both in blue ink, 2 pages, 8¼x11, 2 separate pages, on Young & Rubicam, Inc. letterhead. 1940 December 2. Addressed to Mr. James Stewart c/o Leland Heyward & Co., Beverly Hills, California. Stewart and Stauffer signed this to confirm an agreement that Stewart would appear on a Jan. 5, 1941 radio program sponsored by the International Silver Company and broadcast from Hollywood, California for $4,400. Stewart (1908-1997) starred in more recognized masterpieces of the American cinema than any other actor. In 1940, he won the Best Actor Academy Award for The Philadelphia Story,and he was nominated for Oscars in the same category for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), It's A Wonderful Life (1946), Harvey (1950) and Anatomy of a Murder (1959). Stewart, who was awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 1984, also appeared in You Can't Take It With You (1938), Destry Rides Again (1939), The Greatest Show on Earth (1952), Rear Window (1954), The Spirit of St. Louis (1957), Vertigo (1958) and a long list of other features. Lightly toned and creased. Tape repairs in upper right corner. Staple holes in upper left corner. Two file holes at top edge. Folded once and unfolded. Otherwise, fine condition.
