Oscar-winning actor James Stewart signed this document in 1952. It confirmed a previous agreement with the Theatre Guild for him to appear in an hour-long radio adaptation of the play The Silver Whistle for $2,500.
Document signed "James Stewart" in blue ink and by a representative of the Theatre Guild, Inc. in black ink and unknown initials on rider in blue and black ink. 2 pages, 8¼x11, 1 sheet, front and verso, with 8½x1½ rider stapled to left edge, carbon copy. Feb. 26, 1952. Stewart signed this document to confirm a previous arrangement with the Theatre Guild. He agreed to appear in an hour-long radio adaptation of the play The Silver Whistle on April 6, 1952, to be broadcast from Youngstown, Ohio and sponsored by the United States Steel Corporation. He was to be paid $2,500 for this performance. Stewart (1908-1997, born in Indiana, Pennsylvania) starred in more recognized masterpieces of the American cinema than any other actor. In 1940, he won the Best Actor Academy Award for The Philadelphia Story, and he was nominated for Oscars in the same category for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), It's A Wonderful Life (1946), Harvey (1950) and Anatomy of a Murder (1959). Stewart, who was awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 1984, also appeared in You Can't Take It With You (1938), Destry Rides Again (1939), The Greatest Show on Earth (1952), Rear Window (1954), The Spirit of St. Louis (1957), Vertigo (1958) and a long list of other features. Lightly toned. Carbon copy marks. Contract has light tears at right edge. Rider has irregular top and bottom edges. Otherwise in fine condition.
