Captioned: "'I hate to leave the farm... but here's what I've always/wanted to do!'" The Stratton Story starred Stewart in the role of real-life Chicago White Sox pitcher Monty Stratton, who returned to baseball in the minors after having his leg amputated. Stewart was reportedly Stratton's top pick to play him. Stewart (1908-1997, born in Indiana, Pennsylvania) starred in more recognized masterpieces of the American cinema than any other actor. In 1940, he won the Best Actor Academy Award for The Philadelphia Story,and he was nominated for Oscars in the same category for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), It's A Wonderful Life (1946), Harvey (1950) and Anatomy of a Murder (1959). Stewart, who was awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 1984, also appeared in You Can't Take It With You (1938), Destry Rides Again (1939), The Greatest Show on Earth (1952), Rear Window (1954), The Spirit of St. Louis (1957), Vertigo (1958) and a long list of other features. Lightly toned, soiled and creased. Signature has low contrast but is legible. Corners are rounded. Otherwise, fine condition.
