JAMES STEWART
Sketch of Harvey - the invisible six-foot, three and one-half inch tall rabbit - signed by co-star Stewart
Original Art Signed: "James Stewart/Harvey". 8x10, brown cardstock. Cartoon is drawn in black ink, not by Stewart, who has added three whiskers onto the rabbit's face. This phenomenal drawing isa sketch of one of Stewart's most famous co-stars - a co-star that was never paid, never made an appearance on stage or film and, in fact, never even existed: Harvey the invisible six-foot rabbit. Harvey is one of Stewart's most well-known movies as well as his most loved, both by audiences and by Stewart himself, and the character Harvey is an icon often referenced in pop culture. Stewart (1908-1997, born in Indiana, Pennsylvania) reprised his role of wealthy eccentric Elwood P. Dowd at least four times during his career. He starred on Broadway as Dowd in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Harvey (taking over the role from Frank Fay for almost three years of its four-year, 1,775-performance run) and repeated the role in the 1950 film of the same name. In 1970, he returned to Broadway in a revival of Harvey and reprised his role as Elwood P. Dowd in a 1972 TV adaptation. Stewart, who received an Oscar nomination for his role in the film, had won the 1940 Academy Award for Best Actor for The Philadelphia Story. He was nominated for Oscars in the same category for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), It's A Wonderful Life (1946) and Anatomy of a Murder (1959), as well as for Harvey. Stewart, who was awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 1984, also appeared in You Can't Take It With You, Destry Rides Again, Winchester 73, Rear Window, Vertigo, The Spirit of St. Louis, The Glenn Miller Story, The Greatest Show on Earth and a long list of other films. Fine condition.
