Stamps signed "James Stewart" in blue ink. 1 page, two-tone pink-and-white, 10½x12¾. Uncut sheet of 40 United States Victory Stamps, no denomination, no adhesive on verso. Titled: "UNITED STATES VICTORY STAMP/ The United States Olympic Committee has issued these Olympic Stamps to help raise the fund required/to send the foremost amateur athletes in the United States to the 1948 Olympic Games". Captioned along left edge: "V Olympic Games - St. Moritz, Switzerland - January 30 - February 8, 1948". Captioned along left edge: "Games Of The XIV Olympiad - London, England - July 29 - August 14, 1948". With the Olympic oath printed at the lower edge. Stewart (1908-1997, born in Indiana, Pennsylvania) starred in more recognized masterpieces of the American cinema than any other actor. In 1940, he won the Best Actor Academy Award for The Philadelphia Story,and he was nominated for Oscars in the same category for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), It's A Wonderful Life (1946), Harvey (1950) and Anatomy of a Murder (1959). Stewart, who was awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 1984, also appeared in You Can't Take It With You (1938), Destry Rides Again (1939), The Greatest Show on Earth (1952), Rear Window (1954), The Spirit of St. Louis (1957), Vertigo (1958) and a long list of other features. Lightly toned and creased. Paper clip impression at upper left edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
