Sheet Music Signed: “James Van Heusen” in black felt tip. 9x12. Four pages. Jimmy Van Heusen, who was born Edward Chester Babcock (1913-1990) was an American composer who wrote songs for films, television and theater, and the winner of an Emmy and four Academy Awards for Best Original Song. He began writing music while at high school, and later studied at Cazenovia Seminary and Syracuse University, where he became friends with Jerry Arlen, the younger brother of Harold Arlen. With the elder Arlen's help, Van Heusen wrote songs for the Cotton Club revue, including “Harlem Hospitality”. Van Heusen was also a pilot of some accomplishment who worked, using his birth name, as a part-time test pilot for Lockheed Corporation in World War II. He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song 14 times in 12 different years and won 4 times. James Van Heusen died in Rancho Mirage, California in 1990 from complications following a stroke, at the age of 77. Toned. Lightly soiled and creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
