JAMES KAREN The stage, television, and film actor inscribes this black and white headshot to a fan Autograph Note signed: "To/ Chris Smith/ With my Best/ Wishes + Thanks/ For Your Service./ James Karen/ 1941-1945 US AIR CORP." in black felt tip, 5x3. James Karen (b. 1923) is an American character actor. As a young man, Karen was encouraged to be an actor by U.S. Congressman Daniel J. Flood, who was an amateur thespian himself. Flood recruited him into a production at the Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre. Karen went on to attend the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York. His big break came when he was asked to serves as an understudy to Karl Malden in the original Broadway production of A Streetcar Named Desire. On television he played Dr. Burke on As the World Turns (1956-2010) and was the original Lincoln Tyler on All My Children (1970-2011). However, he is perhaps best known for his recurring role on the television series Eight Is Enough (1977-1981). Karen's notable film credits include The China Syndrome (1979), Poltergeist (1982), The Return of the Living Dead (1985), Wall Street (1987) and, more recently, The Pursuit of Happyness (2006). Pencil notes on verso in an unknown hand. Otherwise, fine condition.
