Buckley, James Lane Buckley (b. 1923) defeated both the Democratic and Republican candidates in 1970 and served as Conservative U.S. Senator from New York from 1971-1977. As Senator, he authored the so-called Buckley Amendment, familiar to all educators as the strict limitation on release of student records. His first book, If Men Were Angels: A View from the Senate, was published in 1975. Buckley, who served as President of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty from 1982-1985, became a Federal Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals, District of Columbia circuit, in 1985. He has been inactive in this position since 1996, although he is still listed as a senior judge. Most recently, he had a copy of his book Saving Congress from Itself (2014) sent to every U.S. Senator office of the 114th Congress. Lightly crease and soiled at top edge. Adhesive residue (previous mounting) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
