Autograph note signed: "Yours, in considerable dis-/tress, on account of/ moving,/J.M.Bailey./Editor 'Danbury News'", in black ink, 6x4. James Montgomery Baily (1841-1894) was an American journalist, known for his humorous newspaper Danbury News, which he established in 1870. After serving in the Civil War, Bailey spent most of his time writing and coming up with comical sketches for his newspaper, which brought him national notoriety and popularity. He published his first book Life in Danbury in 1873, and went on to publish several more throughout the 1870's. Vertical creases from folding. Top edge slightly worn. Fine condition.
