Economics in 1986 for developing public-choice theory - the analysis of how non-economic
forces, including the self-interest of politicians, shapes economic policy. Buchanan has been a
distinguished professor of economics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute (1969-1983) and at
George Mason University since 1983. He's also published and co-published a number of
important books - his best known probably being The Calculus of Consent: Logical
Foundations of Constitutional Democracy(1962), with Gordon Tullock - which discuss
his ideas on public finance, voting, politics and how libertarianism can be applied to these
subjects. Lightly bowed. Otherwise, fine condition.
