JAMES MITCHELL
The actor regretfully says he will not be able to attend the Theatre World Awards because he will be on vacation in California
Autograph letter signed: "James", 6¼x9. May 19. Accompanied by original mailing envelope. In full: "Dear John - And again it happens - I will be on vacation in California on the date of the Awards - I am always honored that you include me in the guest list - I will be there in spirit and with love". James Mitchell (1920-2010) is best remembered for his role as Palmer Cortlandt on the television soap opera All My Children (1979-2010). The role earned him seven Daytime Emmy nominations. The winner of a 1947 Theatre World Award for his performance in Brigadoon (1947), Mitchell appeared on Broadway stages for over thirty years in several musicals including Billion Dollar Baby (1945-1946), Livin' the Life (1957) and Mack & Mabel (1974). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tonyfor Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Normal mailing fold. Light surface creases. Corners slightly worn and creased. Fine condition.
