Autograph Note signed: "10/5/2002/Mark Got your letter of July 11, 1998. Sorry for the delay in replying,/but I've been really busy./Jim", 2 pages (front and verso), 8½x11. Written in upper, and signed in lower margin of a printed letter detailing Newman's space missions, illustrated with printed color images. James H. Newman (born in 1956 in the US Pacific Trusteeship Territory, now Micronesia), earned a PhD in Physics from Rice University in 1984. Newman made four spaceflights on shuttle missions between 1993 and 2002 as a mission specialist on STS-51, STS-69, STS-88 and STS-109, a total of over 43 days in space. He made 6 space walks, including construction work on the International Space Station and repair of the Hubble Telescope. After administrative postings, culminating in directorship of the NASA's Human Space Flight Program in Russia (2003-2006), he became Professor of Space Science at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California. Staple holes at top left. Lightly creased. Lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
