Magazine Cover signed: "James R. Schlesinger". 8¼x11.
Time magazine cover for February 11, 1974. Cover story: "The New Arms
Race". James R. Schlesinger (1929-2014) has served as U.S. Secretary
of Defense (1973-1975) under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford and as
the nation's first Secretary of Energy (1977-1979) under President Jimmy
Carter. A former teacher of economics, Schlesinger was appointed by Nixon to the
Atomic Energy Commission in 1971, and he was named Director of the
Central Intelligence Agency in 1973. Leaving after only six months to become
Secretary of Defense, Schlesinger was later fired by Ford for insubordination
for refusing to carry out orders. A prolific writer and fiery speaker,
Schlesinger returned to the national spotlight in 2002, when President George W.
Bush named him to the Homeland Security Advisory Council. Also a
consultant to the Department of Defense, Schlesinger serves on the boards
of a number of companies. Lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
