JAMES ROOSEVELT. TLS: "James Roosevelt" as U.S. Representative from California, 1p, 7½x10½. Washington, D.C., 1958 February 21. On his Congressional letterhead to George R. Sanders, Director of Special Events, KMLA Broadcasting Corporation, Los Angeles, California. In full: "Thank you so much for your good note. I will indeed have the office get in touch with you as soon as we know our plans, and when we can get away from Washington. You are most generous and I shall look forward to the interview greatly. Mother had a most interesting trip throughout California, but as usual she puts so many things into it that I can't help but worry about the amount of energy she uses up. However, I learned some time ago that it is best just to let her set her own pace. Thanks again for your kindness." James Roosevelt (1907-1991), the son of President Franklin Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt, organized an insurance firm in Boston, became a secretary to his father and then served in the U.S. Marine Corps through WWII (1940-1945). He represented California in the U.S. Congress from 1955-1965. After a year as U.S. representative with the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Roosevelt returned to the private sector as a public relations consultant. Slightly soiled. Fine condition.
