Angeles, California, 1940 April 8. On his personal letterhead to Mr. Edward
S. Hoffmeister, Darby, Pennsylvania. In full: "Thank you for your nice
note. I am glad to enclose the photograph which you requested, and hope it will
serve the purpose. With best wishes to you." Photograph not present. James
Roosevelt (1907-1991), the son of President Franklin Roosevelt, organized
an insurance firm in Boston, became a secretary to his father and then served in
the U.S. Marine Corps through WWII (1940-1945). He represented California in
the U.S. Congress from 1955-1965. After a year as U.S. representative with
the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Roosevelt returned
to the private sector as a public relations consultant. Creased with folds.
