Signature: "J.W. Patterson/N.H.", 3¼x1¾. Politician James W. Patterson (1823-1893) served as a U.S. Representative and Senator from New Hampshire, from 1863 to 1867 and 1867 to 1873, respectively. After graduating from University, Patterson was elected a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, and soon after was elected to Congress. After politics, Patterson became a regent of the Smithsonian Institution and later the president of American Institute of Instruction. Lightly toned. Pencil note (unknown hand). Paper remnants on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
