James Wadsworth Symington (b. 1927), trained in the law, was a good
enough country music singer to perform on radio, and at the rallies for his
father, US Senator Stuart Symington. After serving in several appointive
government posts, including administrative aide to Attorney General Robert
Kennedy (1962-1963), Symington was himself elected to the US House of
Representatives (1969-1977). He gave up his House seat in an unsuccessful
bid to assume his father's old US Senate seat. An amateur historian,
Symington was interviewed extensively during Ken Burns documentary The
Civil War (1990). Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Slightly soiled.
Paper clip crease on top margin. Corners slightly worn. Fine
condition.
