JAN & DEAN: JAN BERRY and DEAN TORRENCE Two index cards, each bearing the signature of one of the singers who competed with the Beach Boys for California surfer rock fans Signatures: "Jan" and “Dean", on two separate 5x3 cards. High School football teammates JAN BERRY (1941-2004) and DEAN TORRENCE (b. 1940) formed a singing duo second only to The Beach Boys in portraying the California youth scene of the 1960s. Between 1959 and 1966, Jan & Dean produced 28 charting singles, with seven hits in the top ten, including "Surf City" (1963) and "The Little Old Lady from Pasadena" (1964). Also in 1964, Jan and Dean pioneered the creation of concert films with their release the T.A.M.I. Show. This show was hosted by the group and featured performances by James Brown, The Supremes, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, Chuck Berry, and many others. Jan Berry's near fatal auto crash in April 1966 and his prolonged recuperation nearly ended the pair's music career, but they eventually returned to live performances, headlining oldies tours into the new millennium. Both cards are slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition. Two Items.
