Small slip of paper signed and dated "Cheerio" by big band leader Jan Garber in 1934
Autograph sentiment signed: "Cheerio/Jan Garber/34". 2¾x2, with rounded right edges. Billed as "The Idol of the Airwaves" during the 1920s and 1930s, Garber (1894-1977, born in Shreveport, Louisiana) was a jazz and big band leader. He started out as a violinist, including a gig with the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra after World War I, before forming the Garber-Davis Orchestra with Milton Davis (1921-4). After Davis left, Garber formed his own orchestra, which specialized in both "sweet" and "hot" dance music in the 1920s, big band music during the Great Depression and swing jazz during World War II. He continued to lead dance music orchestras after the war until his death. Lightly toned and rippled. Otherwise, fine condition.
