Autograph note signed "Hugh C. Brewer Jr.", "Marta Eggerth." and "Jan Kiepura" and, on verso, "You bet!/Irving Cooper" and "Ted Granger", plus 4 unidentified signatures, in blue and black inks. 2 pages, 8¾x5½. Dated July 15, 1953 on one side. Eggerth's note: "Hildegard is wonderful - adorable/[untranslated line]". HILDEGARDE (1906-2005, born Hildegarde Loretta Sell in Adell, Wisconsin), popularly known by her last name only or simply as "the incomparable Hildegarde", was a popular singer in the 1930s and 1940s and had a popular radio program, Hildegarde's Raleigh Room. She was also known as a world-class entertainer. A Polish tenor with a rich, warm tone who was known for his generosity to the public,JANKIEPURA (1902-1966) was a popular opera singer in his homeland. He also performed at the Vienna Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala, the Metropolitan Opera and the Paris Opéra and Opéra Comique, among other houses. A versatile entertainer, Kiepura appeared in 21 movies between 1926, most of them French and German-language, and on Broadway in two productions of Franz Lehár's The Merry Widow (1943-1944) and in Poloniase (1945-1946). He married lyric soprano Marta Eggerth in 1936, and the two performed together many times. They were forced to flee to the United States at the start of World War II. Hungarian singer-actress MARTAEGGERTH (1912-2013), an established star in European films, appeared in two Judy Garland musicals in the 1940s. She was married to Polish tenor Jan Kiepura from 1936 until his death in 1966. Lightly toned. Kiepura and Eggerth's signatures touch. Light discoloration along edges, which touch Kiepura and Granger's signature. Random ink stains. Otherwise in fine condition.
