Inscribed photograph signed: "To Lillie/My Very/Best Wishes/Jan Murray". B/w, 8x10. Stand-up comedian and actor Jan Murray (1916-2006) was the "top banana" on the "borscht belt" circuit before breaking into television in the 1950s. The first comedian to host a TV game show, Murray is best known for his stint as the host of Treasure Hunt (1956-1959). He also hosted several other game shows, had his own show, Jan Murray Time (1955), appeared in made-for-TV movies and made guest appearances on a long list of television series. Murray's other film credits include The Busy Body (1967), Which Way to the Front? (1970) and History of the World: Part I (1981). A popular emcee, Murray was a familiar figure at celebrity "roasts". Among the events Murray hosted frequently in his Hollywood home were an annual Passover Seder, and a comedians' poker game with the likes of Sid Caesar, Milton Berle, Shecky Greene and Buddy Hackett. Ink note on verso (no show through). Fine condition.
