JAN STERLING and LOUISE ALLBRITTON
Both actress' sign on this 5½x4 album leaf for a fan
Inscribed signatures: "To Maurice/Jan Sterling" and on verso "To Maurice/Louise Allbritton", 5½x4 album leaf. JAN STERLING (1921-2004) was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar (while winning the Golden Globe) for her role as a mail order bride in The High and the Mighty (1954). She played brassy women in many feature films, including The Big Carnival (1951), where she had the line: "I don't go to church. Kneeling bags my nylons." Other credits for this actress, well known on Broadway stages as well, included the camp classics Women's Prison (1956) and High School Confidential (1958). She was married to actors John Merivale (1940s) and Paul Douglas (1950s). Critic Hal Erickson at All Movie Guide observes that the comic talents of LOUISE ALLBRITTON (1920-1979), as demonstrated in San Diego I Love You (1945), were largely wasted in the B movies of Universal Pictures. Among her other film credits were Son of Dracula (1943), The Egg and I (1947) and Sitting Pretty (1948). She retired from film to travel the world with her husband, CBS news correspondent Charles Collingwood. Ink captions (unknown hand) at lower edges. Sterling signature shows through lightly. Otherwise, fine condition.
