JANE BRYAN
10x13 image, affixed to 15x20 cardstock, an Elmer Fryer photo from the famous collection of Warner Bros. executive "Doc" Salomon.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Franklin -/From one very envious/of your living in/San Francisco/Sincerely,/Jane/P.S. Hope everything turns out/alright for your own here - J". B/w, 10x13 image, affixed to a sheet of heavy cardstock to an overall size of 15x10 (two surfaces). Photo by Elmer Fryer (1937). American actress Jane Bryan (1918-2009) seemed bound for stardom after major roles in films of the late 1930s, including Marked Woman, A Slight Case of Murder and Each Dawn I Die. Instead, she married drugstore magnate Justin Dart in 1939 and retired from films. The Darts, staunch Republicans, were among the first to urge friend Ronald Reagan to run for President. Although not inscribed to A. M. "Doc" Salomon, this photo was part of his collection.Salomon, a friend of studio mogul Jack Warner who rose to head the London branch of Warner Bros. studios, compiled an extensive collection of celebrity autographs during his nearly 30 years with the studio. A V-1 rocket demolished his London studio in July 1944 and killed Salomon, but his photo collection miraculously survived. Signature light but legible. Corners lightly worn. Fine condition.
