JANE FROMAN
B/w, photo of Jane Froman at piano
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Nancy/Best/Jane Froman". B/w, 5x7. Singer and actress Jane Froman (1907-1980), who performed on the radio, in nightclubs, on Broadway, in films and on television, began her career as a radio singer on WLW in Cincinnati in 1928 and by 1932 she was honored as outstanding radio artist in America. On February 23, 1943, while touring for the U.S.O., Froman was seriously injured in a plane crash, but she overcame her injuries to fulfill her commitment to the U.S.O. in 1945, appearing in 95 shows in Europe. Froman, who appeared in three feature films, Kissing Time (1933), Stars Over Broadway (1935) and Radio City Revels (1938), was the technical advisor and provided the singing voice for the 1952 biopic, With a Song in My Heart, which starred Susan Hayward in her Academy Award (Best Actress) nominated role as Froman. Froman also hosted her own Emmy Award-nominated TV series, USA Canteen (1952), and she was a guest on Toast of the Town (later The Ed Sullivan Show) six times and appeared on an episode of What's My Line? Froman was also known for her work with various charities. Lightly creased at blank margins and corners. Surface creased, light crease at cheek of facial image. Overall, fine condition.
