JANE WYATT
She thanks Hazel O'Connor, who helped her through an apparent illness at a Washington event
Autograph Letter signed: "Jane Wyatt", 2 pages (front and verso), 5x6¾. New York City, undated. On personal letterhead to "Dear Hazel", in full: "You were so very, very kind to me in Washington! First sending me those important pills - & then taking me in charge on the dais! - Oh how furious I am to have been such a dead loss! What a nuisance for everyone and what a bore for me - but you were a dear & I do send you so many thanks. Please give my best to Mr. O'Connor & tell him I promise to be in fine fettle when next we meet. With love". Stage, screen and television actress JANE WYATT (1910-2006) had an established film career dating back to the 1930s (Lost Horizon, 1937; Boomerang, 1947). She is best known, however, for her role as the popular wife and mother on TV's Father Knows Best (1954-1962), for which she won three Emmy Awards. Wyatt's later roles included Spock's mother on the Star Trek TV series and in the feature film, Star Trek IV (1986). This letter was written to Hazel O'Connor, wife of Basil O'Connor, President Franklin Roosevelt's former law partner and close friend. Without a date, it's impossible to know the nature of Wyatt's unhappy experience, but Basil O' Connor organized many charity events as President of the March of Dimes and the American Red Cross, and in memory of FDR. It appears that Wyatt was taken ill at one of these events. Heavy moisture defects throughout (not affecting signature). Binding holes at top edge. Normal mailing folds. Pencil note (in unknown hand) at top left edge.
