JANE WYMAN
Very youthful image, from the famed collection of Warner Bros.
executive "Doc" Salomon
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Franklin -/Sincere best
wishes/and the best to you always/Jane Wyman". Sepia, 8x10. Actress JANE
WYMAN (1917-2007, born Sarah Jane Fulks) was married to future U.S.
President Ronald Reagan from 1940 to 1948, and was the mother of his
children Michael and Maureen. Emerging as a major film star with The Lost
Weekend (1945), she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for
Johnny Belinda (1948), and was nominated for Best Actress Oscar
for The Yearling (1946), The Blue Veil (1951) and The
Magnificent Obsession (1954). She hosted a twice Emmy-nominated dramatic
anthology on TV, The Jane Wyman Show (1955-1958), and returned to the
small screen as the ruthless Angela Channing on the series, Falcon
Crest (1981-1990). A. M. "Doc" Salomon, a friend of studio mogul
Jack Warner who rose to head the London branch of Warner Bros. studios,
compiled an extensive collection of celebrity autographs during his nearly 30
years with the studio. Although not inscribed to him, this photo was part of
that collection, which miraculously survived when a German V-1 rocket demolished
his London studio, killing Salomon, in July. Toned. Paper tape on verso. Fine
condition.
