JANET PRICE and FELIX KOK
The two musicians pen their names on this green album leaf
Autograph Sentiment signed: “With best wishes/ Janet Price/ March 1967” on front and “Felix Kok” on verso, both in black felt tip, 5¾x4. Printed photo (1¾x3¼) of Kok stapled to verso. JANET PRICE (b. 1941) is a Welsh operatic soprano who found a niche singing 19th-century Italian bel canto works. A student of Isobel Baillie, Hervey Alan, and Nadia Boulanger, Price made her debut with BBC Wales in 1964. She had a long-standing association with Opera Rara, appearing in various concerts and putting on staged performances of more obscure and seldom performed works by composers such as Meyerbeer, Auber, and Donizetti to name a few. She also made appearances with the Kent Opera, the Welsh National Opera, and the Handel Opera Society, among others. FELIX KOK (1924-2010) was a violinist who, from 1965 to 1988, led the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He attended the Royal Academy of Music on scholarship and studied under Rowsby Woof. After graduating, Kok joined the Blech Quartet. In 1947, he founded the Beaufort Trio. Kok then went on to join Walter Legge's Philharmonia, and by 1960 he was leading the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Five years later he began playing with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, staying with the group until his retirement in 1988. Remaining signer on verso merits further research. Staples from attachment of photo on verso poke through to front, not affecting signature. Lightly stained, indented, and creased. Left edge irregular from being neatly torn from album. Otherwise, fine condition.
