Collection: (1) Inscribed photograph signed: "To Janis-/Take/care of/my favorite/pose-/love/Janis" in black ink. 3½x5. The actress is shown wearing dark jacket and leaning up against a car door. Lightly toned. Ink slightly faded. Corners rounded. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition. (2) Christmas card unsigned. 3½x4¼ printed personalized card in red and green design. Corners rounded. Original mailing envelope included. Otherwise, fine condition. This item was addressed to Charles "Chaw" Mank Jr. (1902-1985), noted songwriter, author, bandleader, record producer, sheet music publisher, psychic, radio personality, silent movie theater organist, world champion pen pal, inveterate collector and Hollywood/music fan club pioneer. Janis Carter (1913-1944) sang in Broadway musicals, including DuBarry Was a Lady (1939-1940) and Panama Hattie (1940-1942) before moving to films. Her prominent film roles included Cadet Girl (the only time she sang in a film, 1941), Framed (1947) and Flying Leathernecks (1951). Her TV appearances included the role of hostess on the game show Feather Your Nest (1954-1956). Two items.
