JANIS IAN
A shot of the actress at a piano performing in front of a large
crowd
Photograph signed: "Janis Ian". B/w, 10x8 overall, image 9¼x6½
(one surface). Janis Ian (b. 1951) was only 15 and already part of the New
York folk music scene when she first made the charts with "Society's Child",
a song about interracial romance. In a career alternating periods of musical
creativity with periods of withdrawal from the limelight, Ian has
consistently broached controversial topics: domestic abuse, homelessness,
prostitution and the Holocaust. In her 1993 album Breaking Silence she
sang about her own lesbianism for the first time. Ian won a Grammy for "At
Seventeen" (1975). Light corner creases. Otherwise, fine
condition.
