JANIS IAN
Color photo of Janis Ian picture with a dog and guitar
Photograph signed: "Janis/Ian". Color, 8x10. Janis Ian (b. 1951) was only 15 and already part of the New York folk music scene when she first made the charts with "Society's Child", a song about interracial romance. In a career alternating periods of musical creativity with periods of withdrawal from the limelight, Ian has consistently broached controversial topics: domestic abuse, homelessness, prostitution and the Holocaust. In her 1993 album Breaking Silence she sang about her own lesbianism for the first time. Ian won a Grammy for "At Seventeen" (1975). Caption at lower blank margin. Fine condition.
