First day cover signed "JHaas". Lead pencil notations on verso in unknown hand. 6½x3½. First day cover honoring Francis D. Ouimet. Postmarked Brookline, Massachusetts, June 13, 1988. One green-and-white 18-cent Bobby Jones stamp and one color 25-cent Francis Ouimet stamp affixed. FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. American professional golfer Haas, born in 1953, had an auspicious start to his golfing career. He was part of Wake Forest University's golf team, which won the 1974 and 1975 NCAA Men's Golf Championships. Haas also won the NCAA individual championship in 1975. His teammates included two-time U. S. Open champ Curtis Strange and Bob Byman. Golf World later called Wake Forest's team the best college golf team ever. Haas has claimed 28 professional wins, including nine PGA Tour wins, two Senior PGA Championship wins and one at the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship, as of this biography. He was also a member of three Ryder Cup teams (1983, 1995 and 2004) and two Presidents Cup teams (1994 and 2003). Flap is glued inside envelope, which is open and empty. Lightly toned and creased. Normal postal stamps, which touch signature. Otherwise in fine condition.
