Jay Livingston signs a first day cover with a bar of music from Silver Bells.
Autograph music quotation signed: "Jay Livingston", 6½x3½. First Day Cover honoring Christmas with Currier & Ives, 13-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Boston, Massachusetts, October 27, 1976, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Below his signature, the composer has drawn a bar of music, which he has titled: "Sil-ver Bells", the popular Christmas song that he co-wrote with Ray Evans. The song was introduced in the 1951 film, Lemon Drop Kid, starring Bob Hope. In 1998, "Silver Bells" was ranked #8 on ASCAP'S "Top 25 Holiday Season Songs". American composer Jay Livingston (1915-2001) won Academy Awards for Mona Lisa, Buttons and Bows (The Paleface, 1948), and Que Será Será (The Man Who Knew Too Much, 1956) and was nominated for an Oscar for Tammy (Tammy and the Bachelor, 1957). In addition to his songs for Hollywood films, Livingston penned many popular television themes, including those for Bonanza and Mr. Ed. Light crease at upper margin just touches the last "n" in Livingston. Fine condition.
