JAY LIVINGSTON
Jay Livingston signs an autograph musical quotation to a collector.
Autograph Musical Quotations inscribed and signed: "All the best to Sharon Keller/Jay Livingston", 5x4½ blue sheet. The composer has penned a bar of music from eight different songs he composed and has written their titles beneath them: "To Each his Own", "Mo-na Li-sa", "Tam-my", "Sil-ver Bells", "But-tons and Bows", "Bo-nan-za!", "I Am Mis-ter Ed!" and "Que Se-ra Se-ra". Framed with photograph that bears imprinted musical quotations. "Buttons and Bows" (1948, featured in Paleface), "Mona Lisa" (1949, featured in the 1950 film, Captain Carey, U.S.A.) and "Que Sera, Sera" (1956, featured in The Man Who Knew Too Much) were Academy Award winners for composer Jay Livingston (1915-2001) and his lyricist partner, Ray Evans. Livingston and Evans were also nominated for Oscars for songs for Why Girls Leave Home (1945), "Tammy" (from Tammy and the Bachelor, 1957), Houseboat (1958) and Dear Heart (1964). "To Each His Own" was also written for a film, as was "Silver Bells" (The Lemon Drop Kid, 1951) and several other songs for Hollywood musicals of the 1940s-1960s, including "Got an Invitation" from Swing Hostess (1944), "What a Dirty Shame" from Son of Paleface (1952) and "Never Let Me Go" from Girls, Girls, Girls (1962). "Bonanza" and "I Am Mister Ed" were just two of Livingston's popular television themes. Fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 19½x23.
