JAY NORTH
1958 AFTRA membership application for actor Jay North. His mother signed this form one year before his debut in his most well-known role, as Dennis Mitchell on Dennis the Menace.
Document signed by a deputy: "Jay North (By Dorothy North)" in blue ink. Blue ink notations in unknown hand and type notations. 2 pages, 6½x9, 1 sheet (front and verso). With 6½x3¼ initiation fee receipt carbon copy with perforated left edge stapled at top edge. Feb. 25, 1958. Membership form for the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. In 1958, North made his TV debut in an episode of Wanted: Dead or Alive. This was one year before his most well-known role, as Dennis Mitchell on Dennis the Menace. North, born in 1951, is best known as rolling disaster area Dennis Mitchell on TV's Dennis The Menace (a character that earned North a TV Land Award nomination for "Character Most Desperately in Need of a Timeout"). Needless to say, he was pretty much typecast as Dennis Mitchell, after that; an unsuccessful transition to adult acting and allegedly abusive guardians made him give up acting in the 1970s for a stint in the U. S. Navy; he returned for just two more movies, the Russian war film Wild Wind (1986) and the TV movie Scout's Honor (1980). North appeared in over 30 movies and TV shows between 1958 and 1986, with starring roles in the movies Miracle of the Hills (1959), Zebra in the Kitchen (1965) and Maya (1966) and a recurring role as Prince Turhan on The Banana Splits Adventure Hour. As of this biography, he keeps himself busy in cameos, works as a corrections officer and offers counseling to child actors. Lightly toned and creased. Form has light dents in top edge. Receipt has torn bottom right corner and carbon copy marks and was folded once and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
