Price: $700.00
JAY SILVERHEELS
Handwritten note by the Lone Ranger's "faithful Indian
companion"
Autograph Note signed: "To Joe/Best Wishes/Jay Silverheels",
5x3½ album leaf. Best known as "Tonto", "the faithful Indian companion"
of television's Lone Ranger (1949-1957), Jay Silverheels
(1918-1980) had many other film roles, including three performances
as Geronimo in Westerns of the 1950s. Dissatisfied with what he considered the
stereotyped parts assigned to "Tonto", he founded the Indian Actors
Workshop in Hollywood in the late 1960s with the dual goals of creating more
acting opportunities for Native Americans and of improving their screen image.
In 1979 he became the first American Indian (a full-blooded Mohawk) with a
star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. Slightly creased. Otherwise, fine
condition.
