B/w tinted photograph, 8x10 overall, image 7½x9¼ (one surface). Jay Silverheels (1919-1980, born on the Six Nations Reservation, Brantford, Ontario, Canada) was the son of a Mohawk Indian Chief and made a name for himself as a star lacrosse player and amateur boxer before entering films in the mid-1940s. He appeared in many films, often in uncredited roles, before assuming his most famous role: as the Lone Ranger's faithful Indian companion Tonto in the TV series The Lone Ranger (1949-1957). Silverheels was a frequent guest star on TV and had small roles in several westerns after The Lone Ranger. Lightly toned, soiled, creased and bowed. Light tear in negative or original reproduced in top left corner of photo. Light scratches on image. Otherwise, fine condition.
