Sale Price $450.00
Jay Silverheels inscribes his signature on a card to a fan.
Inscribed signature: "To Hirsch, Best Wishes/Jay Silverheels", 5x3¼ card. Best known as "Tonto", "the faithful Indian companion" of television's Lone Ranger (1949-1957), Silverheels (1918-1980) had many other film roles, including three performances as Geronimo in Westerns of the 1950s. Dissatisfied with what he considered the stereotyped parts assigned to "Tonto", he founded the Indian Actors Workshop in Hollywood in the late 1960s with the dual goals of creating more acting opportunities for Native Americans and of improving their screen image. In 1979 he became the first American Indian (a full-blooded Mohawk) with a star in Hollywood's Walk of Fame. A horse lover, he was a competitive harness racer. Typed collector's caption at top touches "B" of "Best". Fine condition.
