Small 3½x3½ candid photograph of the actress shown wearing a dress and scarf, leaning against a wall
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Tom/Cheers!/Jayne/Mansfield". B/w, 3½x3½. Jayne Mansfield (1933-1967, born Vera Jayne Palmer in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania) was an American actress and sex goddess of the 1950s and 1960s. She first gained critical acclaim for her classic performance as a Monroe-like movie starlet in the Broadway play Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? The role won her a contract at 20th Century-Fox. In 1963's Promises! Promises!, Mansfield became the first major actress to appear nude on-screen. Despite a number of good dramatic performances, she was forever typed as a parody of Marilyn Monroe, a stereotype that was probably aggravated by her appearance as Miss February 1955 in Playboy. Mansfield was only 34 when she was killed on the way to a club engagement in New Orleans. Signature lightly beaded but legible. Fine condition.
