Typed Letter Signed: "Jayne", 1p, 7x10. No place, 1957 July 2. To Dorothea. On her personal stationery featuring a caricature of her and her "assets". In part: "Hollywood is wonderful. Everything I wanted it to be. I, too, wish we had the time to get together with George Nartiello and create those fabulous clothes. I would very much like to have the drawings now so that I could have the wardrobe down here in Hollywood...if you would be so sweet, I would love you to go ahead and take credit for being the fashion consultant...I'm so anxious to begin on these so that they will be ready by September because I have become quite wardrobe conscious since I have been back...I plan to be in New York the end of July to exploit my next release, 'WILL SUCCESS SPOIL ROCK HUNTER?' The studio is sending me on a ten-day major city publicity tour to publicize the picture, and my visit would not be complete without seeing you...I have just completed my fourth picture since I have been out here - KISS THEM FOR ME - opposite Cary Grant. It will be so exciting seeing New York again, though....". Jayne Mansfield (1933-1967, born Vera Jayne Palmer in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania) was an American actress and sex goddess of the 1950s and 1960s. She first gained critical acclaim for her classic performance as a Monroe-like movie starlet in the Broadway play Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? The role won her a contract at 20th Century-Fox. In 1963's Promises! Promises!, Mansfield became the first major actress to appear nude on-screen. Despite a number of good dramatic performances, she was forever typed as a parody of Marilyn Monroe, a stereotype that was probably aggravated by her appearance as Miss February 1955 in Playboy. Mansfield was only 34 when she was killed on the way to a club engagement in New Orleans. Bottom edge frayed. Edges lightly toned. Multiple mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
