Television and Radio Artists. In1955, London had one of her few TV
acting roles in an episode of Sergeant Preston of the Yukon. Tons-of-fun
actress and comedienne London (1901-1980), born Jean Glover, is probably
best remembered as Oliver Hardy's fleshy fiancée from the 1931 Laurel &
Hardy short Our Wife, which includes a priceless scene of beanpole
Stan Laurel trying to wedge himself, Hardy and London into a tiny car. She
appeared in almost 90 movies and TV shows between 1919 and 1960, including a
small part as gap-toothed Nurse Nora, "fiancée" to a touched Shemp Howard, in
the 1951 Three Stooges short Scrambled Brains and the strong woman
in W. C. Fields' 1928 silent Tillie's Punctured Romance. London
reportedly tipped the scales at a jolly 255 pounds during her heyday, but she
was forced to lose weight late in her career due to a heart condition; her
acting career declined with her weight. London was also a painter; her
depictions of silent film stars is at the University of Wyoming. Lightly toned
and creased. Form has light nicks in top edge and right edges. Receipt has
carbon copy marks and was folded once and unfolded. Otherwise in fine
condition.
