JEAN PICCARD
About his twin brother's autograph.
TLS: "Jean Piccard", 1p, 8½x11. Minneapolis, Minnesota, 1948 October 31. To autograph collector Lionel Aucoin, Spencer, Mass. In full: "I have your letter of Oct. 18th. I had not lost your address but I did not receive back the stamps which I sent to my brother. As I wrote you, I sent the stamps to him but I did not hear from him again about them. So I do not know whether or not he received them. I know, however, that he receives more demands for autographs than he likes to write. It is quite possible, even likely, that he has received the stamps and that he forgot to inclose them when he wrote me. He is now, as you may know, off the African coast starting his under water experiments. As soon as he is back in Belgium I shall write him about the stamps and I hope he will then send them back soon. I know it is hard to get autographs, but, you see, if it were so very easy to get them they would not have much value, so please be patient a little longer." Jean Piccard, a chemist and aeronautical engineer, with his wife Jeannette, made a stratospheric ascent in a balloon from Dearborn, Michigan, reaching an altitude of 57,564 feet in 1934. Light folds, 1 touches the "n", else fine condition.
