Photograph signed: "Jean Harlow". B/w, 7 x 4¼. Beginning as an extra in 1928, Harlow began her rise to stardom in Howard Hughes' sound production of Hell's Angels in 1930. She starred in The Public Enemy and Platinum Blonde in 1931 and proved her comedic talents in such films as Dinner at Eight (1934) and China Seas (1935). Minor surface creases. Slight smudge at "H". Overall, fine condition. Framed to an overall size of 14¾ x 18½.
(1911-1937) American actress Jean Harlow, the daughter of a dentist, eloped at 16 with a young businessman. The newlyweds settled in Los Angeles, where the bride soon found work as an extra in films. In between parts in features she was displayed more prominently in Hal Roach shorts, notably "Double Whoopee" (1928) with Laurel and Hardy. In 1929 she obtained a divorce and committed herself to a film career. Opportunity came with Howard Hughes when she was cast in his 1927 movie "Hell's Angels". After a slow start, she was cast opposite stars like Spencer Tracy and Clark Gable and became a superstar. Known for her platinum blonde hair, she appeared in such films as: Dinner at Eight, Red Dust, Riffraff, Libeled Lady, The Public Enemy, Reckless, China Seas and Personal Property.
