JEAN HARRIS. ALS: "Jean Harris" at
bottom of 8½x11 photocopy of news article about 14-year-old David Coxon, a
victim of Down's syndrome. To David. In full: "I read this with
great interest, and great admiration. I'm sorry I haven't the kind of picture
you want but this thing which I've enclosed [not present] is from an old
magazine." Irregular left edge with tape remnants, not touching writing or
signature. 1-inch separation (all intact) at right margin touches 2 words of
printed text. Lightly creased. Overall, fine condition. With original 9x4
envelope stamped "Bedford Hills Correctional Facility", postmarked August 11,
1986, addressed by Harris to David Coxon in Solvang, California,
signature and return address at upper left in her hand: "Jean
Harris/B.H.C.F./Bedford Hills,/N.Y. 10507". Lightly creased. Torn open at
top. On March 10, 1980, Jean Harris killed her lover, Dr. Herman Tarnower, the
author and inventor of The Complete Scarsdale Medical Diet. She claimed
to be attempting suicide with a gun and said the gun went off when Dr. Tarnower
tried to stop her. She was sentenced to 15 years but was paroled in 1993. Two
items.
